How to Request API Access in Flex Rental Solutions

Before any other software can work with Flex5, Flex has to switch on API access for your account. Asking takes a few minutes.

Every system that connects to Flex goes through its API, and that includes the Flex Rental Solutions CRM integration in Booked55. The API is off until you request it. Flex then typically approves the request in 1–2 business days.

This is step 1 of 3. Once access is on, you create an API key and paste it into Booked55.

Check your Flex plan first

API access depends on your Flex plan:

  • Flex Enterprise includes API access: 100,000 requests a month, 10,000 a day and 2,000 an hour.
  • Flex GTS includes API access with the same limits.
  • Flex Lite has no API access, so it can't connect to Booked55.

Request access in Flex5

You do this in Flex5 Desktop.

  1. Open Flex5 Desktop and sign in.
  2. Go to Main Menu > Integrations > API.
  3. On the right side of the page, click Request Access.
  4. Fill out the required fields on the Flex5 REST API Access Request form.
  5. Submit the form.

That's it for now. Flex reviews the request, and approval typically takes 1–2 business days. There's nothing to do while you wait.

After Flex approves: accept the terms

Once your request is approved, open Main Menu > Integrations > API again. This time Flex shows its Terms & Conditions for the API. Review them and accept them. You can't create API keys until you do.

You can read the terms again later under Main Menu > Integrations > API > API Access Terms of Service.

Three things to know about the Flex API

  • It's a beta. Flex calls its API “Beta”, and using it means agreeing to Flex's API Terms of Service.
  • Flex doesn't support it. Flex says it does not provide support for the API. For questions about the Booked55 sync, contact Booked55.
  • It has limits. Booked55 uses very little of your allowance. A check that finds no new clients is one request.

If it doesn't work

There's no Request Access button

Check your Flex plan. Flex Lite has no API access. API access comes with Flex Enterprise and Flex GTS. If the API page shows the Terms & Conditions instead of the button, your access has already been approved: accept them and go on to the next step.

You can't create a key

Flex only allows keys after the request is approved and the Terms & Conditions are accepted on the API page.

Booked55 won't accept your key

That happens later, in step 3, and has three usual causes: the key was revoked, it was copied with a space at the start or end, or the Flex user who created it can't see and add contacts. The API key guide covers each one.

Next: create your API key

With access approved and the terms accepted, create a Flex5 API key. It takes a minute, and the guide explains why the key should belong to a dedicated Flex user rather than to you. Then connect Flex to Booked55.
